As the American Heart Association continues the Go Red for Women Campaign, the efforts will focus on the Latino community, with the Vestido Rojo y Todo Corazon event held at the Radisson Hotel Tulsa (10918 E. 41st Street, Tulsa, OK 74146 - HWY 169 S, & 41st Street) on March 20th from 7:00 am – 1:30 pm.

As the Latino/Hispanic population grows in Oklahoma, so does the number of deaths related to heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No.3 killers. Nearly 33 percent of deaths among Hispanic females can be attributed to heart disease and stroke.

“Vestido Rojo is designed to target the female Latino community in Tulsa. As the heart of the family it is important that Latinas across the city understand that cardiovascular disease can be prevented by maintaining good heart health education,” states Nancy Grayson, Cultural Health Initiatives Senior Director with the American Heart Association in Tulsa.

While at the “Vestido Rojo” event participants can have their blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checked and attend break out sessions that feature medical experts that explain the importance of good heart health through education and nutrition seminars. “It isn’t enough for us to simply give participants their glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure numbers; they need to understand what the results mean to their health and how to maintain good heart healthy numbers for the rest of their lives,” explains Grayson.
