David Saucedo, a conservative Christian rapper from Waco who performs under the name Polatik, wants to learn how to start a community blog and become more publicity savvy. So this week he attended the first national Hispanic PR and Social Marketing Conference in Dallas.

"I've learned so many statistics about the Hispanic market," Saucedo said Wednesday at the conference at the Sheraton Dallas. About 300 people attended the conference, which featured 65 speakers. Topics ranged from cause marketing and social media trends to case studies and tips from top bloggers. "The main driver for the conference is the fact that social media has really changed the PR and marketing industries," said conference creator Manny Ruiz of Miami-based Hispanic PR Blog.

The conference focused on the convergence of two fast-growing markets: social media and Hispanic consumers. More than 20 million Hispanics account for 11 percent of Americans online, and their numbers are growing faster than the overall U.S. online audience, says Internet research firm comScore.
