Elmhurst, Ill.—Eduardo Verástegui, a prominent Hispanic actor and producer of the award-winning film Bella, has endorsed Adam Andrzejewski (an-gee-EF-ski) for Governor of Illinois. The following is his statement of endorsement:“I am endorsing Adam Andrzejewski for Illinois Governor because of his commitment to end abortion and support traditional family values. Adam clearly understands that as the chief executive of a state, a governor can play a key role in ending the national nightmare of abortion, one that in recent years has disproportionately targeted the Hispanic community.“In 2008, the number of abortions performed in Illinois reached a 10-year high, despite an overall down trend nationally in procured abortions. This sad fact is due in large part to the Planned Parenthood clinic in Aurora, a predominately Hispanic community.“Respect for the dignity of the human person is at the heart of the Latino culture, which has always held that every life is a sacred gift to be cherished. Therefore it is my duty and obligation to support those men and women of good will who share this fundamental principle and are willing to defend it in the public forum—Adam Andrzejewski is one of those men.“In getting to know Adam, I have come to realize that he shares the values that are not only at the core of the Latino community, but of all Americans: Life, faith, family and freedom. It is for these reasons that I ask all the citizens of the great state of Illinois—especially my Latino brothers and sisters—to vote for Adam Andrzejewski.”As part of his endorsement, Verástegui plans to distribute a video encouraging Latinos to vote for Andrzejewski for Illinois Governor. Verástegui has campaigned for several conservative candidates including the McCain-Palin ticket in 2008, and most recently for Bob McDonnell as part of his successful bid for the governorship of Virginia. In addition to his turn in Bella, Verástegui was featured in the 2009 short film The Butterfly Circus and previously starred in five highly-rated telenovelas (Spanish soap operas) for Televisa, which were broadcast in over 19 countries. He has also been featured on hundreds of international magazine covers including People En Español, and he has appeared in such primetime television series as CSI: Miami, Charmed and Karen Cisco in the United States. In response to Verástegui’s endorsement, Andrzejewski said, “Eduardo Verástegui is well-known for his strong positions on family values, and is a leading voice on this topic in the Latino community. I respect him greatly, and am honored to have his support for in my campaign for Governor.”-30-
