Candidates Debate for Latino Memphis

The issues in Memphis are no longer just black and white. Monday, Shelby county candidates focused on the local Hispanic population in the first ever political debate hosted by "Latino Memphis."

Candidates running for Shelby County Mayor, Sheriff and Commissioner were on hand inside the Latino Memphis forum room debating on issues that affect the Latino community. Monday was the first time candidates running
for Shelby county office held a debate for the Hispanic interest group, Latino Memphis.

The debate was an effort to ask candidates running for Shelby county mayor, Sheriff, and Commissioner questions
that reach beyond the black, white issue and focus on the Shelby county Latino population. "The Latino vote is key. National votes will tell you that sometimes the Latino vote is the deciding vote.

We saw this as a civic exercise to help Latinos make a better and more informed decision when they are going to vote for these three offices," said Mauricio Calvo of Latino Memphis. READ FULL STORY
