CHICAGO, IL – After the success of the acclaimed "Brown Girls' Chronicles: Puerto Rican Women and Resilience," the Vida Bella Ensemble is thrilled to announce the premiere of their next production, "Bless Me, Madrina!" This exhilarating play about the hopes and dreams of Latina women will be featured as part of Mikey-O's HECHO EN CHICAGO theater festival being held at The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts.Written and directed by Dr. Yolanda Nieves, "Bless Me, Madrina!" celebrates the relationships that women build with one another to sustain themselves in light of the daily events that can crush the human spirit. In the Latino culture, the madrina (or godmother), can take center stage in a woman’s life. The madrina can evolve to be a surrogate mother, friend, confidant, advisor, sister, and priestess guiding the women under her charge. The younger women ask of their madrinas to be acknowledged and embraced within their circle. There they are mentored in the ways of family tradition and wisdom. "Bless Me, Madrina!" highlights these feminine and feminist relationships."Bless Me, Madrina!" will run September 17, 18, and 19, 2010 in the 140-seat West Town Studio Theater at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, 777 N. Green Street in Chicago. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online (no surcharges) at http://theaterland.com. You can also call/visit the box office to place your order: 777 N.
