The number of new mortgages to blacks and Hispanics fell sharply in New York City in 2007, while staying flat for white borrowers and — surprisingly — rising for Asian-Americans, according to an analysis of federal mortgage data released on Monday by the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University.
